Farga Olive Trees: Form, Age and Character

Explore the sculptural trunks and spreading branches of mature Farga olive trees.

The mature Farga olive trees featured here have weathered bark, substantial trunks and branches that spread low and wide. Each has its own silhouette.

Read the form of the individual tree

Look at the trunk, root base, branch direction, canopy and scale together. A gnarled or double trunk can be a strong feature, but the tree must still suit the available space and the intended view. Photographs show a tree at one moment; ask for current images and measurements before choosing.

Ask about age and provenance

Some Farga olive trees are exceptionally old, but cultivar name and trunk size alone do not establish an individual tree’s age. Ask for the available records and the seller’s basis for any age claim.

Plan for the new site

Consider light, drainage, access for delivery and planting, and the space required by the mature canopy. Discuss how the particular tree has been prepared and what care it will need as it settles into a new setting.
