The right plant depends on where the sun actually falls, how the soil drains, and how much space the mature plant will have. These ten plants offer different roles in a home garden. They do not all have the same tolerance for direct afternoon sun or dry soil: the fern belongs in a sheltered position, and newly planted trees still need establishment care.
Structural trees and screens
1. Olive tree

This Thai market name is used for a neatly shaped ornamental sold in the Olive De Casa Podocarpus collection (Thai). Confirm the specimen’s botanical name, mature size and light requirements before treating all son plants alike.
3. Sai kaoli (ไทรเกาหลี)
This ficus is commonly used for hedging. A clipped privacy screen needs room for roots and regular shaping; check the exact stock and distance from paths or walls.
4. Mak palm (หมาก)
Tall stems and feathered foliage can make a garden feel open. A newly planted palm needs closer watering attention while it establishes. Identify the palm offered locally before choosing exposure.
5. Pradu (ต้นประดู่)
This substantial shade tree belongs on a larger plot. Plan for mature canopy and roots; do not place a large tree close to buildings or buried services on the assumption that pruning will keep it small.
Smaller plants and seasonal colour
6. Snake plant (ลิ้นมังกร)
Its upright leaves can provide a compact accent in a well-drained container. Check the light exposure of the particular cultivar rather than placing a newly moved plant abruptly in harsh midday sun.
7. Bougainvillea (เฟื่องฟ้า)
A flowering accent for a bright site; allow room for its growth and consider its thorny branches near circulation routes. Drainage and watering still matter, especially in pots.
8. Mok (ต้นโมก)
A white-flowering shrub can frame a boundary or entrance. Select its position and pruning plan for the actual plant and space.
9. Saeng chan (ต้นแสงจันทร์)
Pale yellow-green foliage can provide a colour contrast. Ask the nursery for the botanical identity and appropriate exposure before choosing a site.
10. Tamarind-leaf fern (เฟิร์นใบมะขาม)
This fern belongs in filtered light, morning sun or the shade of larger plants. Use it to soften a sheltered layer, not as a full-sun or drought-proof choice.
Match each plant to its zone
Map full sun, filtered light and deep shade separately. Check drainage, container size and access for maintenance. New plantings need observation during establishment even when the species can cope with a drier site later. A fixed watering schedule cannot serve all ten plants, soils and seasons. Remove damaged growth selectively and investigate its cause before adding fertilizer or changing the watering schedule.
